The Love Kitchen Inauguration – Supporting The Millenium Chapel

The Love Kitchen Inauguration – Supporting The Millenium Chapel

The Love Kitchen was inaugurated on Thursday 20th July 2023 with a lovely dinner generously provided by The Avenue Restaurant and organised by Save and Support Trust and Prof Victor Grech on behalf of the Millenium Chapel.

The event was attended by 40 special benefactors of the Millennium Chapel who also contributed generously for the financing of the Love Kitchen. Special guest of the evening was Prof Richard England who had designed the Millennium Chapel and had just returned from London where he received the great honour of the Free Citizenship of the City by the Mayor of London. Prof England donated one of his special Manikata church paintings and book for auctioning during the evening.

An appreciable amount of money was raised for the running costs and expenses of the Love which aim to provide food to homeless and poor people.

You can also be part of supporting the ongoing Love Kitchen running costs and expenses, by donating to APS Bank Account no 36932120016 or by Revolut 99829429

John Borg Manduca – Malta Landscapes and Seascapes

John Borg Manduca – Malta Landscapes and Seascapes

John Borg Manduca – Malta Landscapes and Seascapes is a new book by Professor Victor Grech on behalf of Beating Hearts Malta, that celebrates the works of the late John Borg Manduca.

The successful book launch was held on the 19th February 2022 and it was sponsored by the Westin Dragonara Resort and all proceeds from the sale of the book went to the Save and Support Trust and Beating Hearts Malta.

When asked why he wrote this book, Prof Grech said: “John Borg Manduca taught me how to paint – his only pupil. On his demise, I spoke to his two sons Stefan and Juan and offered to write a book about their father with their sponsorship, a book whose sales would go to Beating Hearts Malta and Save & Support Trust. Professor Richard England very kindly wrote the introduction.

The launch was a successful event and the book was a small tribute from Prof Victor Grech, to his artistic teacher and mentor.”

Purchase of 45 Oxygen concentrators for Covid-19 patients to Mater dei Hospital

Purchase of 45 Oxygen concentrators for Covid-19 patients to Mater dei Hospital

Save and Support Trust raised funds and contributed for Oxygen Concentrators which were delivered to Mater Dei Hospital on the 25th June 2020 in the presence of Minister of Health, Hon Chris Fearne.

45 Oxygen concentrators for Covid-19 patients where purchased at a cost of €35,000 and provided to Mater Dei Hospital to urgently assist in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

An oxygen concentrator (similar to the one in the picture below) is a device that provides oxygen to a patient in concentrations that are higher than those available in the air. In essence, an oxygen concentrator is a device that helps COVID-19 patients breathe before they need to be on or after they are off the ventilator.

Beating Hearts Malta donated € 9,300 to Save & Support Trust to buy 12 of these oxygen concentrators.

We would like to thank everyone, including all sponsors, who have contributed and donated to this initiative and made the purchase of these Oxygen Concentrators a reality.

OLIVER FRIGGIERI – EXHIBITION, BOOK LAUNCH & SIGNING

Launched on Saturday,
30 November 2019 @ LIMESTONE HERITAGE

Oliver Friggieri, Sketches and Poems, with responses by Victor Grech, Lea Hogg, Arthur Lyon Dahl and Richard England

Exhibition and book, fundraiser for NGOs Save and Support Trust and Beating Hearts Malta

Concept

“This book is an interdisciplinary foray in many ways. I am the editor of this book and I am a doctor but I also paint and am a keen photographer. The idea for this book came about after Lea Hogg mentioned that Professor Oliver Friggieri sketches. Oliver was delighted to support my non-profit work and donated 48 original sketches for this project. We categorized them into nine themes, and decided to match them with his poems, and some art of my own consisting of an oil on canvas and some digital artwork together with a piece of artwork or sketch by Richard England and Arthur Lyons Dahl’s recommendations to improve our environment in Malta. – Victor Grech”

Oliver was a Maltese poet, novelist, literary critic, and philosopher. He led the establishment of literary history and criticism in Maltese while teaching at the University of Malta, studying the works of Dun Karm, Rużar Briffa, and others.

Oliver Friggieri (1947-2020)

Oliver was a Maltese poet, novelist, literary critic, and philosopher. He led the establishment of literary history and criticism in Maltese while teaching at the University of Malta, studying the works of Dun Karm, Rużar Briffa, and others.

A prolific writer himself, Friggieri explored new genres to advocate the Maltese language, writing the libretti for the first oratorio and the first cantata in Maltese. His work aimed to promote the Maltese cultural identity, while not shying from criticism: one of his most famous novels, Fil-Parlament Ma Jikbrux Fjuri (No Flowers Grow in Parliament, 1986), attacked the tribalistic divisions of society caused by politics.

From philosophy, he was mostly interested in epistemology and existentialism.
